The Project, concluded

<<back

As the days went by, the car started to take form. By this point, most of us are tired of working on the car, but we all remembered the goal that we stated in the beginning and we worked to achieve that goal. On the morning of May 7th, after working through the night, the team decided that with the amount of work that still needed to be done, that we would not be able to finish the car in time for the competition. That didn't discourage the team as we continued working to accomplish the goal of the team. We still had a senior project to finish and display at the end of the year. Work on the car slowed considerably after we decided not to compete. In the early morning of May 20th, one week after the competition, we took the car on its first test drive. To much surprise, it worked. Of course there were many bugs that needed to be fixed, but the most amazing part was that it worked.

The remainder of the year was dedicated to making the car presentable for Senior Display Day. We worked out most of the bugs and the car operated and handled great. The thought on everyone's mind was how the car would've fared in competition. For Display Day, we painted the car. The team agreed to using the school colors as the color scheme for our car, which we affectionately named "The Beast".

Display Day was a great opportunity to show others what we had been working on the whole year. It was safe to say that everyone was impressed with our car and the rest of the projects. We even treated the spectators with some demonstrations of the car's capabilities. At the end of the year when grades came out, we weren't too surprised to find out we received A's for our Senior Project.

Trying to summarize a year long project is a difficult thing to do and I'm sure I missed a lot of important events. If you would like to find out more about the project, be sure to ask anyone of the members who, I'm sure, wouldn't mind spending a couple minutes talking about the project. I would be speaking for all of us when I say that working on this project was a great experience in all aspects.
